The Chronicle of Karguun · Chapter 9
The Arts & Sciences
Scholars turn gold into knowledge, and knowledge into a stronger province. Science is cheapest late in the age, but it pays best when bought early. Each science gives less the more you already know.
Buying science
- Science points cost 25 gold coins each at the start of the age, 1 less every month, and never less than 5.
- Points take 24 days to be learned. Libraries give free points every day, which you may place in any science.
- Schools make science cheaper. War makes it twice as dear, and Libraries give half as many points.
What science gives
A science's bonus depends on its points per acre: the first points count most, and about 200 points per acre brings it close to its limit.
| Science | Improves | At most |
|---|---|---|
| Alchemy | Income | +35% |
| Tools | Building Efficiency | +47.4% |
| Housing | Population Limits | +17.5% |
| Food | Food Production | +70% |
| Military | Combat Losses | -35% |
| Crime & Deceit | Thievery Effectiveness | +65% |
| Channelling | Magic Effectiveness & Rune Production | +65% |
Some peoples learn more or less: Humans reach a quarter further, the Undead only half as far. Sages pay much less for every point.
Counsel
- Alchemy (income) pays for itself first; Tools and Housing come next for a growing province.
- Science counts toward networth only a little, and a Learn attack can steal it. Guard it with your defence.
